Acceasy Player user guide
For site owners
Add the player to your website and choose how the video starts.
How do I add the player to my website?
You paste a short embed code into your page. U-I-X sends you the exact code for each video.
- Ask U-I-X for the embed code of your video.
- Tell U-I-X every website address where the video will appear, including any test site. U-I-X sets which websites can show the video, so ask U-I-X to add yours.
- Paste the code into the HTML of your page, where the video should appear.
- Open the page and check that the player appears. If it does not, ask U-I-X to check that your website is on the list for this video.
The code looks like this. Yours has the real player address and video id:
<iframe src="https://your-player-address/embed/your-video-id?autoplay=0" title="Your video title" width="100%" height="600" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
srcis the address of the player and your video. You can add settings at its end, such as?autoplay=0.titlenames the player for screen-reader users. Keep a meaningful one: see What title should I give the player?widthandheightset the size of the player on your page.allowfullscreenlets visitors watch in full screen. Keep it.
Note: When U-I-X updates your video, for example with new captions, the change shows on your page without a new code.
Tip: If your layout allows it, make the player at least 900 pixels wide. The transcript then opens beside the video. In a narrower player it opens below the video, or over it when the player is very small.
What title should I give the player on my page?
Give the player a short title that says what the video is about. Screen readers use the title to name the player, so their users know what it holds.
- Find
title="…"in the embed code. - Check that it names your video. U-I-X fills in the video's title when the video has one. Otherwise the code says
Acceasy Player. - If it says only
Acceasy Player, replace it with a short description, for exampletitle="Video: How to renew your library card".
Tip: If a page has more than one player, give each one a different title.
How do I stop the video from starting on its own?
Add autoplay=0 to the player's address. The player then opens paused and never starts by itself. U-I-X recommends this for public-sector pages.
- In the embed code, find the address after
src=. - Add
?autoplay=0at the end of the address. If the address already has a?, add&autoplay=0instead. - Save your page and open it. The player waits until the visitor selects Play.
src="https://your-player-address/embed/your-video-id?autoplay=0"
Note: Without this setting, the player tries to start the video with sound as soon as it loads. Browsers usually block that, but not in every case, so the video could start by itself.
How do I set the language of the player's buttons?
Add ui= and a language code to the player's address. The player has four languages:
ui=enEnglishui=esSpanishui=ptPortuguese (Brazil)ui=frFrench
To use it together with autoplay=0, join the two settings with &:
src="https://your-player-address/embed/your-video-id?autoplay=0&ui=es"
The setting changes the buttons, tooltips, menus, the shortcuts list and what screen readers announce. When a visitor turns captions on, they also come up in that language if the video has captions in it, unless the visitor has already picked another of its caption languages. The shortcut keys stay the same in every language.
Without ui, the player uses the language U-I-X set for your video, if there is one. Otherwise it follows the visitor's browser language, and shows English when that is none of the four.
Tip: Put ? before the first setting and & between the others. The order does not matter.
How do I make audio description start on?
Add ad=1 to the player's address. The video then starts with audio description. Use ad=0 to make it start without.
src="https://your-player-address/embed/your-video-id?autoplay=0&ad=1"
- This works only for videos that have an audio-described version. Ask U-I-X if yours has one.
- Without
ad, the video starts with audio description only if the visitor turned it on last time, in the same browser. - The setting decides only how the video starts. It does not change what the visitor's browser remembers.
Visitors can still turn audio description on or off with the AD button or the D key: see How do I turn on audio description?
How do I choose which audio language the video starts in?
If your video has versions in several audio languages, add lang= and the code of the one to start with, for example lang=es for Spanish.
src="https://your-player-address/embed/your-video-id?autoplay=0&ui=es&lang=es"
- Use the codes in the list of the globe button, such as EN or ES, or ask U-I-X.
langsets only which language version of the video plays. It does not change the buttons (useuifor that) or the captions.- Without
lang, or with a code the video does not have, the player picks the visitor's browser language if the video has it, or else the video's first language.
Visitors can switch with the globe button or the L key: see How do I hear the video in another language?
How do I give my video a title?
Send the title to U-I-X, up to 200 characters. U-I-X sets it for your video. With a title:
- screen readers name the video with it;
- the embed code from U-I-X uses it as the player's
title; - the player's own page, when someone opens it on its own, is called "Your title — Acceasy Player";
- the transcript page is called "Transcript — Your title", with "Transcript" in the language of that page.
Without a title, the player's page is called "Acceasy Player" and the transcript page "Transcript".
Note: If you pasted the embed code before the video had a title, change the title in your page yourself. Everything else updates on your page without a new code.
Can I link to the transcript page?
Yes. A video with captions or a transcript has its own transcript page: a plain page with the whole text, easy to read and to print.
- Take the player's address from your embed code, without any settings.
- Replace
embedwithtranscript. - To open a given language, add
?lang=and its code, for example?lang=es. Without it, the page shows the first language. - Link to this address from your page, for example just below the player.
https://your-player-address/transcript/your-video-id
https://your-player-address/transcript/your-video-id?lang=es
When the video has two or more languages, the page links to each of them. Visitors can also open it from the player's transcript panel with Open in a new tab: see How do I download, print or open the transcript on its own page?
Note: On the transcript page, lang is the language of the transcript. If the page says "Transcript not found", check the video id and the language code.
How do I choose which sign language starts?
If your video has two or more sign languages, add sl= and the code of the one to start with, for example sl=ASL.
src="https://your-player-address/embed/your-video-id?autoplay=0&sl=ASL"
Use the codes of the sign-language chooser next to the sign-language button, or ask U-I-X. Without sl, or with a code the video does not have, the translation starts in the video's first sign language.
Visitors can switch at any time: see How do I choose another sign language?
